Opening Doors

When we watch tv, we see dreams come true in two hours or less. We watch people overcome disabilities to achieve greatness in an hour. We watch someone pine for love, find it, and live happily ever after all before we finish our bucket of popcorn. Real life does not happen quite so fast and it can be so hard to be patient with the process. But if we practice looking back, we just might realize that our dreams do come true.

A year and a half ago, I was sitting next to my daughter's hospital bed praying for her and for all the babies and moms that were in the adjoining rooms. I prayed for peace in their hearts, swift recoveries and for God to wrap them in comfort. As I walked out of the NICU with my healthy daughter, I couldn't help but think about all the moms that were still in there, hoping and praying for their ordeal to be over. That prayer became a mission as I searched for some way to show them love and support. After a lot of false starts, I found High Risk Hope and have been working toward bringing their services to my local hospital.

The High Risk Hope team and I met with the hospital last week and they responded enthusiastically. They shared ideas with us and openly listened to all that High Risk Hope has to offer their patients. Afterward, they gave us a tour of the NICU and it went from a meeting to a moment.

The double doors whooshed open and I was suddenly overcome with emotion. Tears welled up in my eyes as I realized the significance of this. God put this on my heart to do and He has opened door after door for me to do this work for Him. The last door had been opened. I can finally walk through them and let those moms know that they aren't alone. I can walk through those doors with a small gift of hope.

Take a moment to look back at your life today. What dreams has God helped come true? Is there one that is in the process of coming true? Be patient, my friend. He will open the final door for you, too.
