Love Letters

My oldest stayed the night with my mom last night and it was clear that they had both loved their time together.  They took turns telling stories and staring at each other adoringly.  And then it was time for us to go.  We are leaving on a trip to Minnesota for a few days and it always breaks my son's heart to leave his Granny.  As we were packing up to leave, my mom offered a notepad, pen and stickers to take with him on our trip.  Instead of waiting, he started writing immediately.

"Here, Granny.  This one says, 'Thank you so much for all the things you do and do and do.  I love all my trucks you got me and I love spending the night with you.  I love you!'" he told her.  He handed her this...

Then he wrote one to his brother (who he had apparently missed very much during his slumber party).  "Here Drew!  This says, 'You are amazing.  You are a special boy.  Bye!'" he told him then handed him this.

But his display of love was not quite done.  This time, the love letter was for me.  "Mommy, you are the best mommy ever and my favorite 34 year old in the world," he shared.  I tell him he's my favorite four year old all the time and it wrapped me in love to hear it said back to me.

While he can't write words, he can surely write beautiful love letters.  I will save these and share them with him whenever he needs reminded that he has a loving and kind soul.  I will remind him that he has so much love to give.

How do your children show you love and appreciation?  How have they warmed your heart lately?
