Fancy Meeting You!

My husband goes to a men's Bible study on Friday mornings at 6 AM (is that devotion or what?) so that leaves the boys and I on our own. Yesterday morning the boys woke up around 7 and we snuggled up on the couch. "What are we going to do on this day?" asked my oldest. He consistently says "this day" instead of "today" and I don't have the heart to correct him yet.

"We are going to lay low today. Maybe do puzzles, play trains, take a walk...then, after your nap, we have to run to Target for a few things," I told him.

"Ooh! Target? Can we go to Target now?" he asked. I looked at the clock - 7:25 AM. Target opens at 8 so I figured we might as well get that trip out of the way.  Nothing like a little spontaneity to start the day.

We piled into the car ten minutes later. I swear that they have never, ever been able to get out the door in ten minutes. Ever. Must of been the lure of the dollar bins. I digress.

We walked into the doors of Target and heard someone say, "Hey! That's my family!" My husband was walking in the door at exactly the same time. We all squealed with delight, hugged him and kissed him. He told us how excited he was to spend time with us and we started walking.  Then I realized that most of the staff had stopped what they were doing to watch this unexpected scene.

It must have looked as if we hadn't seen each other in weeks when, in reality, we had all seen each other the night before. But we really love each other. All of us. In our own way. As we walked through the toy section together I thought about how lucky I am to have this man in my life. I thought about how lucky I am that my children have this man for a father. And I gave him one more hug to let him know.

What does your significant other bring to your life? Your children's lives? How do your kids react when they see them?
