How Can I Help You?

I went to Wal-Mart this morning to pick out some fabric for my latest project. I had a few reams piled up on the cutting table when a woman made her way over to cut and price my fabric. She asked what I was making and I told her my list of ideas including pajama pants for my boys. We started talking about kids and she shared that she still has a houseful of them. This surprised me because she was older and I expected to hear more about her grandchildren visiting than living with her.

She told me that her daughter is disabled and has always lived at home. Her son has a child and has been out of work for a year. She invited them to live with her, too. Her husband was injured at his job and he is on disability. She is the only one working and supporting her household. She said that her only prayer is that they know how much she loves them and that they can see all she does to care for them. I promised her that I would pray for the same.

I'm always amazed at what people will tell you when you authentically care about what they have to say.  This woman opened up her heart and her troubles after only a few minutes with me and I was so touched by her story.  She wasn't asking me to feel sorry for her.  She wasn't complaining.  She was saying simply that she would do anything for the ones that she loves.  I'd like to think we all would.  As you go through your day today, would you take a moment to think of her and all the people out there working to support their families?  You might be one of them.  If so, thank you.  I appreciate you and all that you do.
