Tiny Indulgence - The Perfect Scent

"Every day has a color, a smell."
Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni

Scents have a way of transporting you to a different place and time.  If I smell a wood burning fire, I am instantly back at our lake house in Ohio curled up in an afghan playing Trivial Pursuit. If I smell anything cooked with Lipton's French Onion Soup Mix, I am at the home I grew up in waiting for dinner. If I smell Johnson and Johnson's pink baby lotion, I am back at the hospital cradling one of my sons for the very first time.

I was shopping the other day with my husband and found the body sprays at Gap. Remember those? They all have great names like "Dream" and "Grass" (not that kind of grass, silly!). I loved to wear Dream in the days before I could afford actual perfume. It's scent was so light and subtle but not flowery and cloying. I smelled it at the store and felt as young and free as I was then. I remembered feeling like the world was filled with so much opportunity - I just had to go for it. So I bought it and I'm wearing it every day as a reminder that nothing has changed. I'm still that girl that has a mind full of possibilities. I'm still free to make anything happen. This is my tiny indulgence.

What scents bring you back in time? What are your favorite memories that are triggered by them?
